
ICC has selected for four strong Nominees for the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year. The final player will be selected via fan’s voting as well as the decision of a prominent panel of international cricket media. The results will be announced at the end of January, 2025.
Many great players have been rewarded with this title and later they have developed into great players, proving the selection.
Kevin Peterson, Irfan Pathan, Josh Hazelwood, Rishabh Pant and Marcus Labuschagne are some notable players that have been awarded with the title in past.
The four players nominated for this title this time includes –
Saim Ayub –
Saim Ayub has been an all format emerging player from Pakistan. People have known him for his “no look shot”. He has played wonderful innings against South Africa and Australia in their home series.
He has taken wickets with the ball as well. Saim Ayub has been appreciated by the cricketing legends well in PSL and including Ricky Ponting. His performance has been great league cricket such as PSL and CPL as well. His overall record makes him a strong candidate for the emerging player of the year title.
Gus Atkinson –
The emerging player from England who has broken a 134 year record by scoring 12/106 as a debutant bowler. He also scored a century with the bat in the first inning of the second test against SriLanka.
Gus Atkinson debuted in July in test cricket and ended 2024 with 52 wickets which has made him a very strong candidate for the title.
Shamar Joseph –
The 24 year bowler from West Indies is known for his contributions of 7/68 against Australia in their home series.
He played a key role in their victory against Australia in their home series after 1997. The player has huge potential and has 27 wickets in eight test matches – making his way into the nominees for the emerging player of the year award.
Kamindu Mendis –
The left hands batsmen from SriLanka has a huge potential and this makes him the last candidate for the title. He is the first player to score 1000 runs in 13 innings. This record hasn’t been broken since 1949.
He has scored 1110 runs in test cricket, 231 in ODI and 374 in test cricket. He also scored a fifty in his first eight matches which makes him a truly emerging player for Sri Lanka.
