Pakistan team played against Australia and South Africa in their home series with a new batsmen Saim Ayub. He is a player with great talent but playing against South Africa and Australia in their home ground is difficult.
Pakistan took a bold decision and took Saim Ayub instead of Fakhar Zaman and it turned out to be great as the young player performed very well and resulted in winning the ODI series.
However, during the last test match,Saim Ayub got an ankle injury while fielding.
He went to England for further assessment and doctors have told him that his injury is not long term and he might return in six weeks and would likely be able to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025.
PCB is considering adding him in the preliminary squad. All the teams have to announce their squad within a week and with this report, the chances of adding Saim Ayub has increased.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is closely monitring Saim Ayub’s situation and has been hopeful of his return to the national side. He has mentioned him as a ‘national asset’ in his statements.
PCB has shown trust in Saim Ayub while taking him to Australia and South Africa instead of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-haq, who were number 2 and 3 batsmen along with Babar Azam in ODI back till 2023 ODI world cup.
And fortunately, it has worked in the favor of the national team – allowing the management to explore the hidden yet incredible talent of the young batsman.
